Stmicroelectronics has released the new STM32MP23 series of general-purpose microprocessors (MPUs) for the mass market. The new product operates at a temperature as high as 125°C and is equipped with two Arm® Cortex®-A35 processor cores, offering excellent processing speed and energy efficiency. It delivers outstanding performance and robust robustness for industrial and Internet of Things (IoT) edge computing, advanced HMI human-machine interfaces, and machine learning applications.
The new series of MPUs is the successor to the STM32MP25 series launched in 2024, featuring two 1.5GHz Arm Cortex-A35 cores and one 400MHz Cortex-M33 core (for real-time control), as well as a 0.6TOPS neural network accelerator. In addition, the new MPU is also equipped with a 3D graphics processor, an H.264 decoder, a MIPI CSI-2 camera interface that supports Raw data format, dual gigabit Ethernet ports that support Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN), and two CAN-FD interfaces.
The STM32MP23 series integrates a variety of different processing resources, optimizes on-chip functions, and can perform various sensing, computing and data processing functions in smart factories, smart cities and smart homes. With the artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities brought by neural engines, the new series of MPUs can handle intuitive adaptive HMI human-machine interfaces, visual human-machine interactions, and predictive maintenance. The H.264 decoder supports a maximum video resolution of 1080p60. The 3D GPU can handle high-performance real-time graphics and supports open-source frameworks including OpenGL, OpenCL and Vulkan.
To meet the demands of today's networked applications, the STM32MP23 series aims to comply with SESIP3(the STM32MP25 MPU has obtained this target certification) and PSA Level 1 certification. Its protection functions include secure boot, Arm TrustZone™ architecture, secure key storage and tamper-proof detection, as well as hardware encryption accelerators.
At the same time as the release of STM32MP23, stmicroelectronics also extended the support period for each version of the OpenSTLinux distribution from two years to five years. This enhanced support can ensure the stability of the customer's development process and enable customers to obtain the latest security patches for a longer time, reducing the difficulty for equipment manufacturers to meet the requirements of the EU Network Resilience Act (CRA). Stmicroelectronics' commitment to extending support for the mainline OpenSTLinux enables developers to easily use mainstream development frameworks such as Yocto, Buildroot, OpenWRT, and OpenSTDroid, and helps accelerate time-to-market for products.
Developers can also enjoy the following additional advantages: Three BGA package options are provided, allowing for the selection of either a high-density 0.5mm pin pitch or a 0.8mm pin pitch (supporting simplified four-layer PCBS with through-hole technology). All three packages are pin-compatible with the STM32MP25 MPU. The operating temperature range of the device covers industrial grade, and the maximum junction temperature can reach -40°C to 125°C.
The STM32MP23 series MPUs are now in mass production.
