Hittite Microwave, founded in 1985 and headquartered in Boston, USA, is a fabless semiconductor company with the full name of Hittite Microwave (acquired by ADI), which is a global leader in the design and manufacture of MMIC/RFIC solutions based on microwave and RF technologies. Hittite Microwave launched two GaAs MMIC digital attenuators with TTL/CMOS control in 2006 - the HMC470LP3 and HMC472LP4. The new devices have a frequency range of DC to 3.0GHz and are suitable for wireless architecture, test equipment, and microwave wireless product applications. The HMC470LP3 is a five-bit digital attenuator with a typical insertion loss of 1.4dB and attenuation states ranging from 1dB LSB to 31dB, with a typical unit error of ±0.2dB. The HMC472LP4 is a six-bit digital attenuator with a typical insertion loss of 1.5dB and attenuation states ranging from 0.5dB LSB to 31.5dB, with a typical unit error of ±0.3dB. These new digital attenuators have low insertion loss and high switching speed, and can operate in approximately DC conditions without the need for internal or external negative voltage. The matched impedance of these attenuators at any attenuation level is 50Ω, with minimal phase shift and TTL/CMOS compatibility, requiring only a single control line per bit. These low-cost, low-loss digital attenuators are available in industrial standard QFN lead-free surface-mount packages and can be supplied with evaluation PC boards. Hittite Microwave has also introduced two SiGe HBT gain module MMIC amplifiers - the HMC478ST89 and HMC478MP86. The devices are suitable for DC to 4GHz cellular/3G, FWA, CATV, microwave RF, and test equipment. These SiGe HBT gain modules can be matched to 50Ω loads and provide 22dB gain, making them suitable for use as stackable gain stages in various RF and IF equipment. The HMC478ST89 and HMC478MP86 have an output P1dB of +18dBm at 1GHz, output IP3 of +32dBm, and can also be used as LO buffer amplifiers or PA preamplifiers. These versatile MMIC amplifiers can operate from a single supply voltage of +5V to +12V with a current consumption of only 62mA and do not require any external matching components. Both products offer 1C-class (HBM: 1000V) ESD protection, making them more stable. The HMC478ST89 is available in an industrial standard SOT89 surface-mount package, while the HMC478MP86 is available in a Micro-X package.

On June 9, 2014, Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) announced that it would acquire Hittite Microwave Corp (HITT) for approximately $2 billion in cash to expand its RF product portfolio. This move will help ADI accelerate growth in industrial, communication infrastructure, and automotive markets. On June 6, 2014, the closing price of Hittite Microwave's common stock was $60.56 per share. ADI will acquire Hittite Microwave for $78 per share in cash, a 29% premium over Friday's closing price. Both boards have approved the transaction. The enterprise value of Hittite Microwave is approximately $2 billion. ADI plans to finance the acquisition through a combination of cash on hand and short-term debt financing. The boards of both companies have approved the transaction, and it is expected to close in ADI's third fiscal quarter of 2014, subject to regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions. This is the third $1 billion-plus acquisition in the US semiconductor industry this year and the largest transaction, surpassing RFMD's plan to merge with TriQuint Semiconductor for approximately $1.5 billion. ADI CEO Vincent Roche said, "Hittite Microwave's expertise in RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave technologies can provide a strong complement to ADI's RF signal conversion technology."
